About the program
Students of the Medical Laboratory Assistant course from Conestoga College become proficient in the collection of blood samples, performing ECGs, the use of laboratory equipment, and being fluent in medical terminology. Communication and interpersonal skills are also developed in the program for patient interaction. Graduates are eligible to write the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) exams.
Careers
After completing the Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician certificate, graduates may pursue anadvanced diploma in Medical Laboratory Science at Conestoga or other accredited MLT/MLS programs in Ontario. The Conestoga College MLA/T program intends to register with EQualTM Accreditation Canada’s specialized health education accreditation program prior to admitting students (anticipate registration in January 2024). Upon registration and successful evaluation by EQualTM Accreditation Canada’s program, graduates of the MLA/T program will be eligible to write the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) national certification exam.
